Zelentsova Repeats as ECC Player of the Week; Bastin Named to Honor Roll
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia's Polina Zelentsova has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, while teammate Célia Bastin earned a spot on the ECC Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Zelentsova continued her dominant stretch at the top of the Firebirds' lineup, going a perfect 4-0 across singles and doubles play as UDC split its two conference matchups against Daemen University and D'Youville University. Competing at the No. 1 singles position, she recorded straight-set and comeback victories, including a 0-6, 6-4, 7-6(0) thriller against D'Youville's top player. Paired with Bastin at No. 1 doubles, the duo also went unbeaten on the week, posting a decisive tiebreak win against D'Youville's top payers and a 6-1 victory against Daemen's top players.
Bastin joined Zelentsova in delivering a flawless 4-0 week, excelling in both singles and doubles competition. She secured straight-set and three-set victories at No. 2 singles, while partnering with Zelentsova for two key doubles points that helped anchor the Firebirds' lineup.
