Firebirds Fall to Frostburg State in Non-Conference Matchup
FROSTBURG, Md. – The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Frostburg State University in non-conference action.
The Firebirds faced an early deficit after Frostburg State claimed the doubles point, taking victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
UDC's lone point of the match came in singles play, where Nadja Zmukic delivered a strong performance at the No. 5 spot. Zmukic defeated Ella Troxell in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, to secure the Firebirds' point.
The Firebirds battled in several competitive singles matches throughout the lineup. Polina Zelentsova pushed her opponent at the No. 1 position, while Célia Bastin and Lina Benjelloun each fought through tight contests at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.
The Firebirds return home on Friday to host Queens in a conference matchup. Prior to first serve, UDC will celebrate Senior Day, honoring two members of the program for their contributions and dedication.
