Dayna Thompson Earns Second ECC Track Athlete of the Week Title
WEST BABYLON, N.Y.- Dayna Thompson was named the ECC Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. Michael Aiken and Destiny Ryles of the men's and women's basketball teams were also named to the ECC Honor Roll.
Thompson had a strong showing at the Winter Classic, hitting the NCAA Provisional qualifying time in the 60m with 7.65s -a new PR and UDC record. Throughout the 60m rounds, she ran the three fastest times in the ECC this season (7.71s, 7.68s, 7.65s). She then went on to clock in at 24.97s in the 200m, which also broke the UDC record and is the fastest ECC time so far this season.
Aiken averaged 19.0 points, 5.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game in a 1-1 week for UDC. In the game against STAC, he led with a game-high 20 points while pulling four rebounds, three steals, and two assists. In the Firebirds' win over Mercy, he was one assist shy of a double-double with 18 points, nine assists, two rebounds, and two steals.
Ryles averaged 19.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 3.5 steals per game to lead the Firebirds to a 1-1 week. In the Firebirds' win over Mercy, she packed the stat sheet, hitting a career-high 32 points, eight assists, six steals, and five rebounds.
