Nelson, Jones Sweep East Coast Conference Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Awards

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – Juniors Rochelle Nelson and Kaydian Jones of the University of the District of Columbia women's track and field squad swept this week's East Coast Conference athlete of the week awards as Nelson garnered track athlete of the week while Jones was named field athlete of the week.

Nelson (Mass Media – Kingston, Jamaica/Holmwood Tech HS) ran an impressive 58.01 in the 400M at Saturday's Terrapin Invitational to finish 6th amongst 19 competitors. She returned to the track to run a tremendous leg on the 4x400M team with a 56.4 split to help her team finish 3rd in the field of 10 teams with a time of 3:54:15.

Jones (Journalism – Kingston, Jamaica/St. Andrew HS) opened her Outdoor campaign with an impressive win at the Terrapin Invitational, placing 1st of 16 competitors in the Long Jump event. Her leap of 5.75M (18'10.5"") was a personal best and was one foot better than the runner-up. This mark also places her 18th on the NCAA Division II List in the Long Jump.

Nelson, Jones and the Firebirds will be back in action on April 13th at the George Mason Spring Invitational.
