UDC Sweeps Washington Adventist, 3-0, for Second Time in as Many Weeks

Takoma Park, MD: September 27, 2010-- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Volley Team defeated the Washington Adventist University Shock, 3-0,  for the second time within as many weeks tonight at the Pit on the Adventist Takoma Park, Maryland Campus. Two Firebirds, senior middle hitter Karen Trevino (Political Science-Anthony, NM) and junior outside hitter Mirella Nunes (Business-Sao' Paulo, Brazil) tallied 15 kills apiece in leading the team to the win. Set scores for the match were, 25-8, 25-9 and 25-2.  

In addition to her 15 kills, Nunes recorded 8 service aces, 2 digs and 1 solo block to her performance tonight. Trevino also tallied 4 service aces, 2 assists, 4 digs and 1 solo block. Senior outside hitter Carmen Smith (Nursing-Houston, TX) delivered 9 kills, , 6 service aces, 1 assist , 4 digs and 1 solo block to the team's performance.

UDC (12-4) returns to the court on September 30, in a re-match with Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia. Union will be seeking to avenge an earlier loss to the Firebirds on September 2, in Washington.
