UDC Women’s Volleyball Drops Two Games at the University of Alabama Huntsville Country Inn and Suites Volleyball Invitational

Huntsville, AL - The UDC Women's Volleyball Team traveled to Alabama to participate in the University of Alabama Huntsville Country Inn and Suites Volleyball Invitational.  The Firebirds were defeated by UAH 3-0 and Henderson State 3-0.  With the pair of losses the Firebirds drop to 3-3 on the season.

In the first match, the Firebirds fell to the University of Alabama Huntsville by a score of 3-0.  In the first set, the Chargers outpaced the Firebirds by a score of 25-12.  The second set was tight most of the way with the Chargers holding a slight advantage.  Towards the end of the set, UDC was able to tie the score at 24 with four straight points.  UAH was able to capture the next two points in a row to close out the set at 26-24.  The third set started out much like the second, with 11 ties leading up to the score of 14-14.  But the UAH Chargers rattled off the next ten points in a row to take a commanding 24-14 lead.  The final result of the set was 25-15. 

In the second match the Firebirds were also defeated by Henderson State by a score of 3-0.  Henderson State controlled the first set winning 25-11.  Henderson State went on to win the second set 25-16.  The third set was well contested, with the Firebirds maintaining a lead up until a 12-12 tie.  Henderson State was then able to gain control of the set and the match, outlasting the Firebirds 25-20.

The Firebirds were paced on defense by Junior libero Grace Perilli (Lewisburg, WV – Independence HS) (19 digs in 2 games).  Offensively the Firebirds were lead by senior setter/ right side Grace DeMichelis (Aurora, CO – Overland HS) (20 assists in two games), freshman setter Kamene Rose (Chula Vista, CA – Hilltop HS) (22 assists, 14 digs in two games), and junior outside hitter/ middle back Vanessa Garley (Rio Rancho, NM – Rio Rancho HS) (16 kills in two games).

UDC plays two more games on Saturday as part of the University of Alabama Huntsville Country Inn and Suites Volleyball Invitational.  The Firebirds take on West Georgia at 9:00 am and Harding at 1:00 pm.
