UDC Women’s Volleyball Loses to West Georgia and Harding at the Alabama Huntsville Country Inn and Suites Invitational
Hunstville, AL – The UDC Women's Volleyball team lost two matches today at the Alabama Huntsville Country Inn and Suites Invitational, dropping to 3-5 on the season.
In the first match, West Georgia disposed of the Firebirds in three sets 3-0. In the first set, West Georgia jumped out to a commanding lead and finished the set 25-14. The second set was close most of the way with West Georgia edging out the Firebirds at the end 25-18. The Third set was close in the early goings, but West Georgia was able to pull away, closing out the Firebirds 25-15.
In the second match, the Firebirds fell to Harding in three sets 3-0. The first set was close in the beginning, but Harding scored 16 of the last 18 points, putting the Firebirds away 25-9. The second set was tight all the way up to the last point, with 11 ties up until 24-24. Harding was able to win the next two points, however, pulling out a 26-24 victory. The third game was all Harding as they jumped out to an early 10-1 lead and never looked back winning 25-9.
The Firebirds were paced on defense by freshman setter Kamene Rose (Chula Vista, CA – Hilltop HS) (20 digs in two matches) and junior libero Grace Perilli (Lewisburg, WV – Independence HS) (25 digs in two matches). The offense was lead by senior setter/ right side Grace DeMichelis (Aurora, CO – Overland HS) (17 assists in two matches).
The two losses today end a disappointing tournament for the Firebirds as they went 0-4 on the weekend. The Firebirds will look to rebound on Tuesday, September 13th at Bowie State at 7:00 pm.
