AMHERST, N.Y. – The University of the District of Columbia men's basketball team faced a tough test on Friday night, falling 85–47 to No. 2 Daemen University at Lumsden Gymnasium in East Coast Conference action.
The Firebirds (1-11, 0-4 ECC) went up against one of the top teams in the nation, as Daemen used an early surge to take a 37–17 halftime lead. UDC showed improved offensive rhythm in the second half, scoring 30 points, but was unable to overcome the early deficit.
Ty Williams led the Firebirds with 11 points, adding three assists and three steals. Justin Minor provided energy off the bench with seven points and five rebounds, while Rejuan Gray and Oliver Spence each chipped in six points.
UDC competed on the glass, finishing with 37 rebounds, including 18 offensive rebounds, and recorded six steals and five blocks on the defensive end.
Daemen shot 46.2 percent from the field and connected on 13 three-pointers, using balanced scoring and depth to maintain control throughout the contest.
The Firebirds continue their upstate New York road trip, heading to D'Youville on Sunday for another East Coast Conference matchup.
