Firebirds Fall to #25 Adelphi in Men’s Tennis Matchup
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team fell to Adelphi University, 7–0, in regional action.
Adelphi took the early lead by sweeping the doubles point. The Panthers secured victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, while the No. 3 doubles match was decided by default to give Adelphi the opening point.
In singles play, Adelphi continued to build its lead with wins across the lineup. At No. 1 singles, Louca Bertone defeated Sebastiano Palma 6–2, 6–3. Viktor Hockl earned a three-set victory over Elouan Queguiner at No. 2 singles after dropping the opening set, rallying for a 1–6, 6–3, 1–0 (4) win.
Spyridon Papageorgiou claimed a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles over Ambrose Evamy, while Thomas Horsley defeated Filippo Vatteroni 6–3, 6–2 at No. 4 singles. Matias Hoyos added another point for the Panthers with a 6–1, 6–0 win over Ignacio Lopez Fernandez at No. 5 singles. The No. 6 singles match was also decided by default.
UDC will return to action on Friday as the Firebirds travel to Virginia State for a 1:00 p.m. matchup.
