WASHINGTON, DC -Head Women's Basketball coach, John Nakpopdia announced the schedule for the 2021-22 season. The Firebirds have two players returning from the 2019-2020 season and nine new players joining the team.
UDC finished the 2019-20 season with an 8-20 overall record and a 4-12 conference record. They have two starting guards returning for the season, Halia Ellis and Latavia Jackson. They also welcome four freshmen players, six transfers, and a graduate student.
The Firebirds will open their season on November 13, as they travel to New Jersey to compete in a two-day tournament at Caldwell University. They will host a home game on the 16th and the 19th before heading back on the road for the last few weeks of November.
UDC will begin conference play in December, traveling to N.Y. on the first to compete against Molloy. The next six games will be held at home, including the HBCU showdown against Bowie State on the fourth.
January and February will be comprised of all conference games, six of which will be hosted at home and eight on the road.
"I am very excited for this upcoming season," said Nakpodia. "We have a young but very talented team. Our versatility will allow us to play an exciting style of basketball on both sides of the ball. I think this team will grow up quickly and be a huge factor in the ECC this year."
