UDC Firebirds Lose to Georgia Southwestern 51-74
Americus, GA: December 16, 2006—The University of the District of Columbia’s seven game win streak came to an end today when the Georgia Southwestern University Hurricanes defeated them, 51-74, in Americus, Georgia. The Hurricanes had a 17-2 run at the 12-minute mark of the first half, and went on to out shoot the Firebirds 58-32 percent for the game.
UDC also had trouble holding on to the ball, losing it 30 times on
turnovers, while Georgia only turned it over 16 times. Georgia
gained 34 points on turnovers, while UDC gained 10 points.
Georgia led at the break 18-35, then opened up a 24-point lead in the 13th minute of the second half, and a 26-point lead with 5 minutes remaining in the game. Four Georgia players scored in double figures, with Antonio Campbell leading the way with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists.
Sophomore guard Brian Adams was the leading scorer for the Firebirds, with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Charlie Smallwood followed with 13 points and 2 rebounds. Justin Walker, a junior guard from Teaneck, New Jersey added 11 points and 2 rebounds.
UDC, now 7-2 for the season, will see action
again on Monday, December 18, in Columbus, Georgia, as they take on
the Columbus State University Cougars.
