Bloomfield, NJ: January 17, 2008—The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men’s Basketball Team found the going rough today facing the Bloomfield College Deacons, as they were beaten, 99-74, in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Sophomore forward Gage Day led the Deacons to the win with a game-high 30- points and 4 rebounds.
Joining Daye in double figures for the Deacons were senior guard Omari Knox with 29- points, 5 rebounds, and junior forward Emery Mitchell, who scored 11- points. UDC trailed most of the game and went into the half-time break with a 35 point deficit (61-26).
The Firebirds committed 25 turnovers, which the Deacons converted into a total of 40 points. Senior guard Kechan Myers (Philadelphia, PA) led the UDC scoring with a season-high 29 points and 5 rebounds, followed by junior forward David Burton (Philadelphia, PA) with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds (his second of the season) and senior forward Rasheed Cole (Clinton, MD) with a double-double of 10-points and 10 rebounds.
Bloomfield shot 44 percent (32 for 72) from the field, 49 percent (21 for 43) from beyond the arc, and 61 percent (14 of 23) from the charity stripe for the game. UDC shot 37 percent (27 for 73) from the field, 33 percent (5 for 15) from three-point range and 79 percent (15 of 19) from the free throw line.
UDC dropped to 5-11 with this loss, and
