Firebirds Fail to Connect at Philadelphia, Lose 78-58

Philadelphia, Pa: November 19, 2008—Shooting just 33 percent (21-64) for the game, the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds fell to the Philadelphia University Rams, 78-58, tonight at the Gallagher Center. Five Ram players scored in double figures, with Malcolm Ingram leading the way by posting 17 points and grabbing 8 rebounds.

UDC kept the game close in the first half, until the 7:30 mark when the Rams began to pull away to take a 34-28 lead into the break. The Firebirds made only 4 of 22 three point shots during the game for an 18 percent completion rate, while the Rams connected with 31 percent (8 for 26). But the difference came in two point field goal completions, with the Rams connecting on 48 percent (25 for 52) of their shots, and 69 percent (20 of 29) of free throws.

Junior forward David Burton (Philadelphia, PA) led the Firebirds in scoring with a double double of 24 game-high points and 13 rebounds. The only other Firebirds in double figures were senior guard Brian Adams (Washington, DC), with 12 points, and sophomore guard Tim Ellison (Alexandria, VA) who scored 11 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.

It was a frustrating trip for the Firebirds, who are now 1-2 for the season. They return to action on Saturday, November 22, at home, against Bloomfield College.
