Bloomsburg, PA – The UDC Men's Soccer Team pulled off another victory in extra minutes tonight, as senior defender Nana Bamfo (Upper Marlboro, MD/ Ghana - Largo HS) finished off a header in the 96th minute on a cross from junior midfielder Tanzu Korkmaz (Istanbul, Turkey - Ozel Dogan Lisesi). The Firebirds advance to 4-1-1 while the Huskies drop to 1-3.
Both teams got off to a slow start, and the game remained scoreless through the end of regulation. The Firebirds managed only 9 shots on the day while the Huskies were able to attack the goal 11 times.
The UDC Defense remained stout once again throughout the game, registering a shutout for the 3rd time in 6 outings. Led by Nana Bamfo and sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Heatherington (Collingwood Ontario, Canada - Collingwood Collegiate Institute), the Firebirds didn't give up any shots in the overtime period. The Firebirds only got one chance in overtime, but capitalized on the opportunity and finished the game off.
UDC Head Coach Matt Thompson had this to say about the overtime victory, "It's good to get a win after Sunday's loss to Queens, and I am happy our guys bounced back tonight. We played fairly well, possessed the ball, and worked hard for the entire match. It was a great goal from Nana to win it. We are looking forward to a big week next week and our match against Charleston on Monday."
The Firebirds return to action on Monday, September 26th as they travel to Charleston, West Virginia to take on the University of Charleston at 4:00 pm.
