New York City, NY – The UDC Men's Soccer team traveled to New York City for an educational visit during their weekend trip to take on Queens College on Sunday, September 18th. Prior to their match the team traveled up a day early to experience the "Big Apple." For most of the players, it was their first time traveling to this fast-paced, larger than life city.
The team took an educational field trip to New York City to learn more about one of our nation's most famous cities. On Saturday, the team was able to spend quality time learning from the tour of this great city and what makes it so special, with many of the team's international students visiting the city for the first time. The field trip created an opportunity for the players to spend time with one another off the soccer field.
The Firebirds got the chance to see many of the great landmarks and sites that give New York City such a tremendous reputation. First off, the team was able to visit "Ground Zero" and the memorial that has been established following the tragedy of September 11th. It was an emotional and eye-opening experience for both the players and coaches. The Firebirds got a chance to put their soccer lives aside and realize what truly matters in life and to not take the things they have for granted.
The team then went on to visit the world-reknowned Times Square in the midst of downtown New York. The players were amazed by the atmosphere surrounding them and truly felt that it was like no other place that they had experienced before.
