Coach Mahaffey to Host First-Ever Summer Tennis Camp
WASHINGTON, DC - Richard "Dickie" Mahaffey, head coach of the men's and women's tennis programs at the University of the District of Columbia, will be hosting the first-ever Dickie Mahaffey Summer Tennis Camp at UDC Tennis Courts.
Mahaffey guided the Firebird women's tennis team to the school's first-ever East Coast Conference (ECC) championship and the program's first-ever NCAA Division II Sweet 16 appearance. He also coached the men's team to a second-place finish in the ECC, a No. 3 regional ranking, and a NCAA Regional Tournament first-round victory before bowing out in the second round. He was voted ECC Coach of the year by his fellow coaches for both the men's and women's seasons in 2011.
The Dickie Mahaffey Summer Tennis Camp is designed to launch and build upon the participants' experience with and love for the game of tennis. Campers will have fun and get fit while completing drills and exercises that develop and refine their strokes, serves, footwork and speed. Innovative techniques including demonstration, discussion and games will be used to teach teamwork, sportsmanship and strategy. Experienced coaches will tailor their instructive techniques based on the varied skill levels assessed and will remain flexible on approaches in response to campers' needs.
Mahaffey will conduct six sessions from mid-June to mid-July. The dates are as follows:
Session 1: June 11-15
Session 2: June 18-22
Session 3: June 25-29
Session 4: July 2-6*
