Lady Firebirds Defeat Alderson-Broaddus 63-44
Washington, DC: December 1, 2006—The Lady Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia played an up-tempo game at home tonight to defeat the Alderson-Broaddus Lady Battlers 63-44. After a close start, UDC scored eight unanswered points to take a 14-6 lead ten minutes into the game, and set the tone for the remainder of the game, never trailing and dictating the outcome with a solid win.
The teams were virtually tied in the percentage of two point field goals made with UDC making 34.8 percent while Alderson-Broaddus made 35.3 percent of their shots. The difference was in three point shooting, with UDC making 40 percent of theirs while Alderson-Broaddus only made 22 percent of theirs.
Junior guard Ashley Alexander (Washington, DC) paced the Lady
Firebirds with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Sophomore Robin Williams (Bronx, NY) followed with 17 points and 3
rebounds, while freshman forward Gabrielle Richardson
(Buffalo, NY) added a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Stephanie Devericks led the Lady Battlers with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Stephanie Phatiphong added 11 points and 4 rebounds.
With this win, the Lady Firebirds improved their record to 2-3, and will see their next action on Sunday, December 3, at 2 p.m., at home against Lander University.
