Lady Firebirds Fall to Saint Andrews 52-60

Washington, DC: December 16, 2006—It was a valiant effort by the University of the District of Columbia Lady Firebirds this afternoon against the Saint Andrews College Lady Knights, but they couldn’t pull out the win as they fell to the Lady Knights 52-60.
UDC opened the game with a 5-0 run, while Saint Andrews was having problems finding the basket.

Saint Andrews scored three minutes into the game, and tied the score 10-10 at the 12:51 mark. The Lady Knights led at the halftime break, 27-22, and retained the lead until the end of the game, with the Lady Firebirds getting no closer than within 4 points.

The game was won on the backboards, and field goals, as the Lady Knights out rebounded the Lady Firebirds 44-31, and out shot them 52 to 32 percent . Guard Danielle Norman paced the Lady Knights to victory with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Ashley Mitchell followed with 16 points and 4 assists.

The high scorer for UDC was freshman guard Tiffany Church (Norfolk, VA) with 15 points and 3 rebounds. Senior forward Jennifer Jones (Newark, NJ) added 14 points , 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Junior guard Ashley Alexander contributed  13 points , 3 assists and 6 rebounds.

UDC’s season record is now 3-6. Their next game will be at home Tuesday, December 19, at 6 p.m.
