UDC Downs Alderson-Broaddus 59-52

Washington, DC: November 28, 2007—The University of the District of Columbia Lady Firebirds downed the Alderson-Broaddus Lady Battlers, 59-52, at home tonight, extending their win streak to four and giving them their best early season record in many years. Sophomore guard Tiffany Church (Norfolk, VA) led the team to the win with 12 points 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.

Junior guard Robin Williams ( Bronx, NY) posted 11 points, 6 rebounds  and 1 steal in the victory, while sophomore Nicole Cooper (Ft. Washington, MD) added 9 points, 1 rebound and 2 steals.

UDC took an early lead, which it carried to the break with the score of 36-25. The Lady Firebirds hit 43 percent (13-30) of their first half field goals, 46 percent (5-11) 3-point field goals, and shot 63 percent from the charity stripe.

Alderson-Broaddus made an 8-0 run in the second half to bring the score to 38-37 before Church hit a 3-pointer, to ignite a UDC 9 point run that increased the lead to 49-37 and eventually to close out the game at 59-52. UDC shot 35 percent (21-60) for the game.

Stephanie Phatiphong was the game high scorer with 14 points and the leading scorer for Alderson-Broaddus. Chelsea Kuehner added 10 points for the Lady Battlers.

UDC will return to action December 1,  at home, against West Virginia State University.
