Lady Firebirds help out at Food & Friends
By: Robin Williams
Taking part in yet another community service event the Lady Firebird Women’s Basketball team, in conjunction with Food & Friends, helped reach out to the DC community. Since 1988, Food & Friends, an organization based here in Washington, DC, has been providing counseling, packages, meals, and groceries to residents around the DC Metro area living with HIV/AIDS and other illnesses.
These services offer relief for those infected and their families, making a nutritional, balanced lifestyle available, giving them peace of mind. Offering a few extra hands to prepare meal orders and deliveries, make goody bags, and stuff envelopes, the Lady Firebirds continue to show that it is not what you do on the court but rather what you do off the court that really counts.
Even spending time to put up a Christmas tree and decorations at the Food & Friends headquarters, the Lady Firebirds’ efforts were met with smiles, thank you’s and the satisfaction of helping those who are truly in need and the individuals who work hard to provide goods and services for them. With the holidays just around the corner, and a new season underway, the Lady Firebirds plan to continue being a winning team in everyway they can.
