UDC Women Falter at Nyack, Lose 49-46
Nyack, NY : February 10, 2009—The Firebirds Women’s Basketball Team fought hard tonight in their game against the Nyack College Warriors, but lost, 49-46, in Nyack, New York. Neither team shot well, with both under 30% from the field, but Nyack pulled off the upset win on 28% (14-50) shooting.
Junior guard Jasmine Minter paced the Warriors to the win, scoring 12 points and pulling down six rebounds while delivering 4 assists. Also in double figures for Nyack was freshman forward Khamaria Tellis, with a double- double performance of 10 points and 10 rebounds, and junior guard Kelsey McIntosh, who scored 10 points and grabbed three rebounds.
Early in the game Firebird starting guard Deyshia Williams (Camden, NJ) went down to injury, taking an important scorer and rebounder out of action. Before suffering the injury, Williams managed to score 8 points and grab six rebounds. Sophomore guard Lillian McGill (Sumter, SC) led the Firebird scoring with 9 points while grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds. Senior guard DeVaughn Hailey (Camden, NJ) scored 9 points, and collected five rebounds.
Nyack led most of the first half, although the score was tied
twice before freshman guard Stacy Griffith (Fredericksburg, VA)
made a layup with one minute remaining in the half, to give UDC a
one point lead (19-18) at the break. The second half was not better
for UDC, as they only shot 30% (9-30) from the field, while
Nyack shot 32% (10-31).

he Nyack bench outscored UDC’s 15-10, while UDC converted 17 turnovers to 13 points and made good on second chance opportunities by scoring 10 points.
With this loss, UDC is now 19-4 for the season, while Nyack is 11-10. UDC returns to action on Saturday, February 14, for their final home contest of the season.
