McGill Receives MVP – Banice Gets Coach’s Award At UDC Athletic Awards Banquet

Senior Lillian Mc Gill (Administration of Justice Major, Sumter, SC) was named Women's Basketball MVP for the 2010-11 season at the University of the District of Columbia's annual athletic awards banquet, Sunday at Maggiano's in Washington, DC

The highly successful senior finished her career with over 1000 points and rebounds and was lauded by Head Coach Jay Butler as a steady force each and every game and exclaimed "I don't know how we will replace her!" Lillian finished her senior year with 12.6 points per contest and 11.1rpg.

Another award winner will return next season and take on a more prominent role with the Firebirds, and that is Dohnay Banice, a 6-0 junior forward from Wilmington, DE .The Business Administration Major was given the Coach's Award for being a well motivated, steady player who Coach Butler said, "kept us together, she was our glue." Dohnay finished the 2010-11 season with 5.7 ppg and 5.2 rebounds per game. She shot 50% from the field for the year.

Coach Butler also thanked Director of Athletics Patricia Thomas for the opportunity to compete in the East Coast Conference next year. He explained how important it was to be in a conference after all these years. " It gives us better scheduling options, better exposure up and down the East Coast; the fact that now our student athletes can play for a conference championship, Player of the Year, All conference honors, and an NCAA berth are all huge !"
