Washington, DC – University of the District of Columbia Women's Basketball junior guard Jamilia Bonner (Mobile, AL – Williamson HS) had a spectacular weekend in Springfield, MA at the American International College Classic.  The East Coast Conference recognized Bonner's performances by selecting her as the ECC Women's Basketball C0-Player of the Week.  It is the second time in only two weeks that a Firebird has received the honor.  Junior guard Janelle Junior (Riverside, CA – La Sierra HS) received the honor in Week 1.

Bonner was dominant for the Firebirds in their two wins at the AIC Classic in Springfield, MA, scoring 56 total points in two games on 20-36 shooting from the field (55.6%).  Bonner also shot 12-22 from three point range (54.5%).   She averaged 28 points per game to go along with 7.5 rebounds per game.  On the year, Bonner is averaging 24 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game.

The Firebirds are off to an impressive 3-0 start.  They opened the season with a victory over Chestnut Hill College 86-51 at home.  They then traveled to American International College for the AIC Classic where they notched victories over Goldey Beacom College 86-74 on Saturday night and Bloomfield College 74-61 on Sunday.  UDC is a Division II member institution, and competes in the East Coast Conference in all sports.

UDC Head Women's Basketball Coach Lester "Jay" Butler had this to say about Bonner's award, "We are very happy that Jamilia was selected as ECC Co-Player of the Week.  She has worked extremely hard in the off-season, and it is great to see it paying off for her.  Hopefully we can continue to get better as a team as the year progresses, but Jamilia's play is certainly going to be a big factor for us."

The Firebirds return to action tonight as they face #17 ranked Holy Family away at 7:00 pm.
