Washington, DC – Representatives from UDC Women's Tennis and Women's Volleyball were honored by the East Coast Conference today.
In an impressive week for UDC Women's Tennis, two Firebirds took home weekly honors. Sophomore Jessica Nunez (Guayaquil, Ecuador) earned ECC Player of the Week Honors. Nunez continued her impressive 2011-2012 campaign as she finished off the regular season undefeated at No. 1 singles by taking home victories in matches against St. Thomas Aquinas, Dowling, and C.W. Post on the week. She also teamed up with Maria Vitkina (Ekaterinburg, Russia) to go undefeated in doubles on the week.
Freshman Maxime Duijst (Valkenswaard, Netherlands) earned ECC Rookie of the Week Honors. Duijst went undefeated without dropping a game in three conference matches on the week. In singles play, she won by identical scores of 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot over St. Thomas Aquinas, Dowling, and C.W. Post. She also teamed up with Kristyna Nepivodova (Breznice, Czech Republic) to win all three doubles matches by identical 8-0 scores.
The UDC Women's Tennis Team is set to host the 2011 ECC Women's Tennis Championship Semi-finals on Tuesday, October 4th at 12:00 noon at the UDC Tennis Facility.
In Women's Volleyball, Junior Middle Hitter/ Outside Hitter Vanessa Garley (Rio Rancho, NM) earned ECC Honor Roll Honors. Garley put together a very solid week in leading the Firebirds to a 3-1 record. In four matches, Garley sent home 39 kills on a .361 hitting percentage, while also picking up 8 service aces, 33 digs, and 6 total blocks. Garley was named ECC Player of the week on September 6th.
The UDC Women's Volleyball Team returns to action on Tuesday, October 4th at Goldey-Beacom College at 7:00 pm.
