CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – Lauren Brittingham of the University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team has earned East Coast Conference player of the week honors while Nigel Munson of the men's team earned a spot on this week's Honor Roll.
Brittingham (Washington, DC – Potomac HS), a senior guard who has been thrust into the spotlight with the season-ending injury to Jamilia Bonner, led the Firebirds to a 2-0 record last week which included wins over NYIT and Bridgeport. She averaged a team-best 24.0 points per-game while registering 4.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds per-contest.
The sharp-shooting guard made 52-percent of her shots from the field (14-of-27), 46-percent of her three-point attempts (6-of-13) and 82-percent of her free-throws (14-of-17) during the week. She currently ranks 15th in Division II for three-point field goal percentage with a season average of 44.8-percent.
Munson (Washington, DC – DeMatha HS) averaged 20.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 7.5 assists per-game in a 1-1 week for the Firebirds. He led UDC to a comeback win over NYIT on Wednesday night with 24 points, nine assists and six rebounds, then recorded 17 points, six assists and six rebounds in a narrow, 77-75 loss at Bridgeport.
The Virginia Tech transfer, who has earned ECC player of the week twice this season, ranks 5th in the league and 41st in the nation in scoring (19.6 ppg) and 1st in the league and 7th in the nation in assists per game (6.4).
