University of the District of Columbia’s Dohnay Banice Earns ECC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week; Nigel Munson Makes ECC Men’s Basketball Honor Roll

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY  –  Dohnay Banice of the University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team has earned East Coast Conference player of the week honors while Nigel Munson of the men's team earned a spot on this week's Honor Roll.

Banice (Wilmington, DE – Williamson HS), averaged a double-double of 19.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per-game in a 2-0 week for the Firebirds. She shot 73.7-percent from the field and 83.3-percent from the foul line during the week. First, she shot 8-of-9 from the field and 8-of-9 from the stripe to finish with a season-high 24 points and nine rebounds in a lopsided win over Mercy. Then, she notched her fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds in an impressive win over C.W. Post.

The senior forward has played a pivotal role in the Firebirds' current four-game win streak. She has averaged 15.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per-game during that stretch.

Munson (Washington, DC – DeMatha HS) averaged 27.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per-game in a 1-1 week for the Firebirds. He helped UDC to a lopsided win over Mercy on Wednesday night with 20 points and six assists, then recorded a season-high 35 points, four assists and six rebounds in a hard-fought, 92-85 loss to C.W. Post on Saturday. With that 35-point effort, Munson became the second Firebird player to surpass the 1,000-point career scoring mark.

The Virginia Tech transfer, who has earned ECC player of the week twice this season, ranks 4th in the league and 37th in the nation in scoring (19.5 ppg) and 1st in the league and 8th in the nation in assists per game (6.4).
