WASHINGTON, DC – Julia Lynch, a standout outside hitter at Feather River College (CA) and Spring Creek High School (NV), has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at the University of the District of Columbia in the Fall 2012, it was announced Tuesday, July 10th, 2012 by head coach Sheila Weaver.
"Julia is a terrific addition to our offense, and will be an immediate scoring threat," Weaver said. "She is a seasoned and dominant offensive player."
Lynch led the Golden Eagles to the California Community College Sweet 16 in 2011 and two Golden Valley Conference championships in 2010 and 2012. She was named to the All-Conference team in 2011. She finished the 2011 Fall season with 171 kills (2.8 kpg) and a hitting percentage of .432.
Before attending Feather River, the Spring Creek, Nevada native starred at Spring Creek High School, earning the team's most valuable player award in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and 3A All-State recognition her senior year. She also participated in track and Art Club.
The 5-8 outside hitter will help rejuvenate a Firebirds squad that ranked next to last in hitting percentage (.145) and dead last in kills (10.04 kpg) as a team in 2011. Lynch will join forces with senior outside hitter Vanessa Garley, who ranked 8th in hitting percentage (.257) and 7th in kills (3.05 kpg) in the East Coast Conference last season.
Lynch graduated from FRC with an Associates of Art degree and plans to major in Art at the University of the District of Columbia. She aspires to one day be an artist.
